Students Learn About Themselves and the World Through Study Abroad
Personal growth is just one benefit of studying abroad, says Lisa Donatelli, Deputy Director/Director of Global Strategies for Georgetown’s Office of International Programs. She has seen that studying and living overseas challenges students academically, intellectually, and personally. “When a student goes abroad they do a significant amount of thinking, reflecting, and growing in those areas,” she explains.
Lannan Symposium Focuses on Social Change
“One of the most significant powers of a university is its power to convene,” said Dean of the College Chester Gillis on April 6th in Gaston Hall at Georgetown University. With these words, Dean Gillis opened the third annual Lannan Symposium, “Literacy, Literature and Democracy,” which focused upon the power of the written word to foment change.

A Message from Dean Chester Gillis
January 2010 Recently I put large posters in the window of the Dean’s office on the third floor of the Intercultural Center and outside the entrance to the offices in White-Gravenor. The poster asks the question: “Where can a degree from Georgetown College take you?” and answers “Anywhere you want to go!” The poster displays pictures of eight prominent alumni, indicates what they majored in when they were in the College, and states what their profession is today.
The Dean's Lunch Seminars
Throughout the academic year, Georgetown College students are invited to join Georgetown alumni and leading members of the Washington, DC community for lunch and conversation. The College Dean’s Office will host visitors from across a variety of career fields for informal exchange and dialogue about.
