University NetID Services: How to get a NetIDNetIDs are generated based on information in the University's three core business systems: Genesys (human resources system), Banner (the student system), and the alumni database. To have a NetID, you must be present in at least one of those systems. Un-paid affiliates are currently entered into the HR system for NetID provisioning. Who do I contact to get a NetID? NetIDs are generated automatically for every employee, student and alumnus active in Genesys, SIS, or the alumni database. If you don't know how to get someone entered in one of these core systems, or if you have questions about the process, contact the appropriate office below. Submit Genesys paperwork through your department's administrative manager. If paperwork has been submitted you can check the online directory from campus each morning to see if your NetID has been created. Students Active, registered students can refer to the online directory while on campus to see their NetID. From other locations write netid @ georgetown.edu to get your NetID. Incoming students can contact netid @ georgetown.edu to find out what your NetID is, but passwords are created by the Registrar's Office and sent by postal mail to the address on file. If you need help navigating the administrative process to get a NetID generated, please contact the NetID Office at netid@georgetown.edu or 202-687-5128. NetIDs are generated during the night after the information has been entered into a core business application. For example, if your complete information is entered into Genesys at 3:00pm on Monday, your NetID will be generated that night and will be published in the online directory Tuesday morning. You can find your NetID by checking the online directory. If a NetID is needed for a new employee before the paperwork can be entirely complete, it may be possible for a "pending" record to be entered in Genesys based on certain minimal information. Additional, complete paperwork must be submitted before that employee can be paid. Sometimes a faculty member accepts an appointment in the spring to teach in the fall, but wishes to begin preparing coursework or communicating with colleagues using Georgetown's e-mail system. It may be possible for the faculty member to be entered in Genesys using a special category of "affiliated non-employee." Once the faculty member arrives on campus to teach, s/he would be required to fill out the appropriate paperwork to comply with federal regulations and to be paid. Social security numbers are required for entry in Genesys. If a new hire is not a US citizen but will be paid, s/he must apply for a social security number from the Social Security Administration before s/he can be entered into Genesys If the faculty member will not be paid, a Georgetown identification number can be assigned for internal purposes by the University's Tax Accounting Office. I have a contractor starting in my office... can she get a NetID? People working at the University in either an un-paid category or someone who will be paid through a method other than University Payroll should be entered into Genesys as an affiliated non-employee.
