Weekend Highlights

Among the weekend’s most popular events was a reception held at the Newseum, at which President John J. DeGioia and a host of current senators and congressmen and Georgetown alumni welcomed John Carroll Weekend attendees to the university’s hometown.

The following night, alumni gathered in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress to enjoy the stunning space and remarks by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (H’02). Later that evening, Hoyas took over downtown D.C. during the Block Party and enjoyed the talents of acclaimed alumni performers at one of three GEMA Rocks concerts.

Highlights also included discussions with National Security Advisor Gen. James Jones (F’66, H’02) and Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis (C’77). Georgetown President Emeritus Leo J. O'Donovan, S.J., professor of religious art and cultural history Diane Apostolos-Cappadona, professor of history Maurice Jackson and English professor Michael Collins led a variety of lectures and tours exploring the District’s diverse artistic, architectural and literary treasures.

Honoring the Accomplishments of Georgetown Alumni

At the weekend’s signature awards banquet, attendees paid tribute to five distinguished alumni and one friend of the university with the 58th annual John Carroll and Patrick Healy awards recognizing lifetime achievement and service to Georgetown.
