Financial Aid for Summer School

Due to limited funding, Georgetown is not able to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need during the summer term, but some aid is available.

Summer FAQs

Georgetown Degree Candidates

Scholarships for Undergraduates:  GU scholarships are available in limited numbers and amounts for GU undergraduates enrolling in the summer term who demonstrate financial need.  Priority is given to GU undergraduates who received GU scholarship assistance during the previous academic year who must enroll in summer school in order to graduate on time with their class and who submit a completed summer aid application to the Office of Student Financial Services by April 1st.  GU scholarship awards to eligible undergraduates help pay all or a portion of summer tuition charges; these scholarships typically do not provide assistance in meeting summer expenses for travel, room, or board, and they may not be used for Tutorials or Consortium courses.

Undergraduates who are eligible for Federal Pell, ACG, or SMART grant awards, who have not already received the maximum allowable annual amounts during the preceding academic year may be eligible to receive these grants for the summer term.

Scholarships for Graduate Students:  Contact your academic department for information about support for the summer term.

Loans:  Students who enroll at least half-time in the GU Summer School, who have not already borrowed the maximum loan amounts during the preceding academic year may be eligible to borrow additional amounts to meet summer school costs.

Federal Work-Study:  Georgetown degree candidates may be eligible for Federal Work-Study funding for employment during the summer term, if sufficient Federal Work-Study funds are available in a given year.

To Apply:

Summer aid applications submitted to the GU Office of Student Financial Services by April 1st will be given first priority for limited GU scholarship funds.

Early submission is strongly recommended because funds are limited and awards are made on a rolling basis until funds are depleted.

Responses to applications and award announcements will be mailed to students beginning May 1st.

Non-Georgetown Students

Scholarships:  Students who enroll in the GU Summer School who are not degree candidates at Georgetown University can apply for limited scholarship assistance directly from the Georgetown Summer School.

Loans:  Students who are not degree candidates at Georgetown who enroll at least half-time in the GU Summer School who have not already borrowed the maximum loan amounts during the preceding academic year may be eligible to borrow additional amounts to meet summer school costs.  Non-Georgetown students must apply for loans through their home institutions; Georgetown will work with the home institution to certify enrollment and need for assistance for the summer term.

Federal Work-Study:  Georgetown does not offer Federal Work-Study funding to Non-Georgetown students.
