Creating a Link to Secured Page

Synopsis: Use this guide to create links to secured pages.

About Secured Web Pages

Browsers can access Web servers over two protocols, HTTP and HTTPS. The 's' in the latter one indicates that the Web page is secured. HTTPS is a protocol that encrypts data for security, meaning there is one line of information flow between the Web server and the viewer’s browser. No other party can interfere into the process and retrieve the data exchange. These pages will have Internet addresses those starting with https:// rather than http://.

On KSE, both sections and individual pages can be secured. In the case of securing a section, all the Web pages of that section will be encrypted and have HTTPS protocol designated to their addresses. You may prefer to secure a section or a page to bring a layer of protection for sensitive data or insert an authentication process, such that the page is only viewable through entering your NetID. To secure a section on your KSE site, please forward your request to your KeyBridge Representative or email to keybridge at georgetown.edu.
