Maps & Directions to the Georgetown Chemistry Department

The University main campus is located at the intersection of 37 th and O Streets NW. The Department of Chemistry main office is located in Room 240 of the Reiss Science Building (#25 on the campus map). Faculty offices, research space, and laboratories are located in both the Reiss Science Building and in the nearby White-Gravenor Hall (#29).

Driving Directions to campus

From Washington, DC:

  • From Northwest Washington : Take Wisconsin Ave. South. Turn right on Reservoir Rd. Turn left off of Reservoir at Entrance 1, just past 38th St.
  • From Southeast Washington : Take Pennsylvania Ave. West and bear left onto Independence Ave. From Independence, turn right onto 12th St., N.W. Turn left off of 12 th and onto K St. Follow K St. to Whitehurst Freeway. Turn left onto Canal Rd., and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.
  • From Northeast Washington : Take Rhode Island Ave. west until it feeds into M St. Take M St. through Georgetown and past Key Bridge. Stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.

From Maryland:

  • From I-270 : Take I-270 South toward Washington, exiting onto Rte. 355/Wisconsin Ave. South. Follow Wisconsin Ave. south until you intersect Reservoir Rd., where you should turn right. Turn left at Entrance 1, just past 38th St.
  • From I-95 : Take I-95 South to I-495 West toward Silver Spring. From I-495, exit onto Rte. 355/Wisconsin Ave. South toward Washington. Follow Wisconsin Ave. south until you intersect Reservoir Rd., where you should turn right. Turn left at Entrance 1, just past 38th St.
  • From Baltimore-Washington Parkway or Rte. 50 Westbound : Take B-W Parkway or Rte. 50 west to New York Ave. From New York Ave., bear right onto L St. Turn left onto 10th St. and then right on K St. Follow K St. to Whitehurst Freeway. Turn left onto Canal Rd., and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.


From Northern Virginia:

  • From I-66 (after 9:00 a.m.) : Take I-66 East to the Rosslyn-Key Bridge exit. Stay in the left lane and follow signs to Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge, staying in second lane from left. Turn left onto Canal Rd, and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.
  • From I-395 : Take I-395 North, and exit onto Washington Blvd. Follow signs to Rosslyn and Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge, staying in second lane from left. Turn left onto Canal Rd., and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.
  • From Rte. 50 Eastbound : Follow Rte. 50 East and take Rosslyn-Key Bridge exit. Follow signs to Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge, staying in second lane from left. Turn left onto Canal Rd., and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.
  • From George Washington Parkway (after 9 a.m.) : Take the G-W Parkway south, exiting at Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge, staying in second lane from left. Turn left onto Canal Rd., and stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.

Parking

A limited number of visitor parking spaces are available on an hourly or daily basis at the Leavey Center P-1 or Lot A. These spaces are managed separately by the Georgetown University Hospital and can be reached by entering campus from Reservoir Road Entrance 1. A limited number of daily parking spaces are available in the Southwest Garage for a flat rate of $12/day and can be reached by entering campus from Canal Road or Prospect Street.

Street parking around campus is severely limited and strictly enforced by the D.C. police (MPD) and the D.C. Department of Public Works (DPW). Most streets require a Zone 2 residential permit issued by the District of Columbia for parking for longer than two hours. A limited number of metered spaces are available on Reservoir Road, 37th Street and Prospect Street.

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SHUTTLE to/from campus

The Georgetown University Transportation Service (GUTS) shuttle regularly runs five shuttles connecting the campus to the Georgetown University Law Center, to University offices on Wisconsin Avenue, to Metro stations at Rosslyn (Virginia) and Dupont Circle (District of Columbia) and to stops in North Arlington, Virginia.

METROBUS/METRORAIL to/from campus

The University is served by the G-2, D-2 and D-4 Metrobus routes. Check the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) website for schedules. The closest Metrorail stops are Rosslyn on the Blue and Orange Lines and Dupont Circle on the Red Line. GUTS shuttle buses operate daily to and from campus from the Rosslyn and Dupont Metrorail stations.
