Given his research focus on East Asian history, it seems natural for Father John Witek, S.J. to have developed Chinese and Japanese language skills. However, Witek also works with six other non-English languages: French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese and Spanish. This résumé is impressive, surely, but it is also critical for his study of early Jesuit missions to China.
