Steve Mitchell was elected to the City Council in May 2005, and served as Mayor for the 2007-09 term. He served on the City’s Sign Control Board for more than 10 years and was chairman in his last year on the Board. In 2001, he was appointed to the City Plan Commission, serving as a member until January 2005. Mitchell works in tax software development for Thomson Reuters, having spent 21 years serving in various leadership roles within the company. He graduated from the University of North Texas with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting with an emphasis in tax. Mitchell is a member of the Commission on State Emergency Communications and the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition. He has been a member of Richardson Rotary Club and served as Vocational Service Director, Camp RYLA Chairman and RISD-Rotary D-FY-IT Chairman. He is a graduate of Leadership Richardson Class IX, Citizen Police Academy Class II, and Citizen Fire Academy Class X. He has served as vice president of the Greenwood Hills Neighborhood Association, and has been a member of Richardson Heights Homeowners Association, Heights Park Neighborhood Association, and Cottonwood Heights Neighborhood Association. His wife, Karen, is a labor and delivery nurse at Baylor University Medical Center. They are the parents of twins.
