The new Motorola Droid X is a powerful smartphone, but its packaging is pretty minimal.

Motorola's chief executive Sanjay Jha said that was because Motorola is trying to be environmentally friendly, using 65 percent recycled packaging, along with a small box and minimal printed matter.

So here's what you'll get on July 15 for your $299.99 (minus a $100 mail-in rebate): a huge smartphone in a small box, along with a power adapter, MicroUSB cable and a few pieces of paper. The Droid X box doesn't include headphones (any headphones you have around will work fine), and the 16-Gbyte SanDisk memory card will come pre-installed. Available accessories will include a home dock, car dock, HDMI cable and 32 GB memory card, which you'll have to buy separately.
