Department news, deadline reminders, announcements of job postings and funding opportunities, announcements of general interest to the graduate community, and all other important information relating to the History Department is handled over the official department email list. Doctoral Student Handbook
The Department of History Doctoral Student Handbook includes rules, policies, and other things PhD candidates need to know in order to successfully navigate the program. The Handbook is revised annually. Be sure to read the 2009-2010 Doctoral Student Handbook especially before sitting for comprehensive examinations or defending a dissertation.
In the revised 2009-2010 handbook, PhD students will find a useful checklist of program requirements and guidelines, broken down by year of study. The two-page checklist is also downloadable as a PDF here:
MAGIC Student Handbook
The Department of History MAGIC Student Handbook includes information equivalent to the contents of the doctoral version, but as is pertinent to their particular program. The MAGIC Handbook is also revised annually. The 2009-2010 MAGIC Handbook should be consulted for any information on requirements and policies. Also please fill out and return the MAGIC degree planning form for incoming students.
Graduate Student Contacts
Two graduate students are selected each year to sit on the Graduate Studies Committee (GSC). The GSC representatives for the 2008-2009 academic year are:

- Javier Puente (term expires Fall, 2010)
Each major field of study also has one or more students who coordinate events and people in their major field and answer questions for incoming students. The Area Representatives for the 2008-2009 academic year are:
