Nawawi Foundation

al-Husein N. Madhany. "Nawawi Foundation." Encyclopedia of Islam in the United States. Ed. Jocelyn Cesari. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 2007.

The Encyclopedia of Islam in America is the first encyclopedia that systematically documents the diversity and issues of concern to Muslims in America. Topic entries include communities like Chicago, sects like the Ahmadiyya Community, movements like the Dar al-Islam movement, ideologues like Maulana Mawdudi, American Muslim political-action organizations like the Muslim Public Affairs Council and general topics like the Elderly and Patriotism. Special attention is given to Shia sects within America, Muslim educational institutions, and American Muslim-funded civic service organizations. There are more than 25 contributors--from Harvard as well as from beyond--who worked on the publication. The Editorial Board for the Encyclopedia is primarily comprised of faculty from Harvard University.
