Patient Support Team—Medical and Financial

Under the direction of a Patient Care Manager, our Patient Care Coordinators and financial team provide a personalized service that supports and guides you through every aspect of your care—from appointments and consultations to the determination of treatment plans, cost estimates, international insurances and payments.

We Speak Your Language

Language services are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Our staff speak Spanish and Arabic and are also qualified medical interpreters. Interpreter services are provided in over 175 languages including American Sign Language (ASL) for all patient appointments, procedures and in-patient stays. Qualified medical interpreters are available in-person or immediately via an on-demand video and phone system throughout the hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions about International Services

What specialties are Georgetown known for?

There are four major specialities that Georgetown is known for:

  • Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center—Georgetown is one of only 39 centers in the United States with a comprehensive cancer center designation from the National Cancer Institute.
  • Georgetown Neurosciences—Offers such advanced technology as the CyberKnife® and offers treatments in Movement Disorders and Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy and Stroke.

How do I make an appointment to see a doctor?

Making an appointment is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Call our office at 202-444-1588 or send us an e-mail at: international@gunet.georgetown.edu
  2. Provide the following information: Your first and last name, date of birth, address and telephone number.
  3. Tell us your symptoms, or the name of the department where you would like an appointment.

How can I arrange for a second opinion?

Send us a medical report (translated into English) from your previous doctor that includes the diagnosis and the treatment you have received. This medical report will be sent by our office to the appropriate department to be reviewed by a doctor and a recommendation will be provided. Once the treatment plan has been determined, a cost estimate can be generated.

Do you need information about my health insurance?

Yes. Insurance information is very important. Each type of insurance is handled differently. For example, if you are a self-pay patient, payment is expected at the time of service. If you are financially covered by an embassy or an organization, a letter should be provided by them stating that they are responsible for all the medical expenses. For patients who have international insurance, their insurance information should be provided to us before seeing a doctor. Our office will contact the insurance company to request a pre-authorization for medical coverage. Patients with US-based insurance should provide us with a copy of the insurance card.

How can I get in touch with you?

Send us an e-mail now, and we will respond shortly: international@gunet.georgetown.edu

I do not speak English; are there doctors who speak my language?

There are Georgetown physicians, who are bi-lingual, but of course, this will depend on your need and your language, and we will try to refer you to these physicians wherever possible. However, interpreters are provided free of charge for all your appointments, procedures and in-patient stays at Georgetown University Hospital.
