Why SFS-Qatar?
- The Georgetown degree builds on a prestigious history of more than 200 years, offers strong global name recognition, and is a guarantee of high quality. At the successful completion of his or her program, the SFS-Qatar graduate will receive a Georgetown diploma identical to those distributed on the home campus in Washington, DC.
- The Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service, founded in 1919, is the oldest and largest school of international affairs in the United States. The SFS-Qatar curriculum, both core and major, is identical to that followed by hundreds of successful SFS graduates on the Washington, DC campus.
- The liberal arts education at Georgetown University and the School of Foreign Service offers students training in a wide range of subjects, along with the ability to specialize in key international affairs topics. This combination of breadth and depth of learning is highly valued in the many career fields that SFS graduates choose to follow.
- A particular advantage of Georgetown University's Qatar campus is its high faculty-to-student ratio, which leads to smaller classes, allows for more personal attention, and gives students opportunities to develop close working relationships with their professors.
- The diverse student population of the School of Foreign Service in Qatar, representing more than 30 different nationalities and four continents, permits each student to learn about countries, cultures, and traditions different from his or her own - both in the classroom and outside of it.
- True to Georgetown's Jesuit tradition of "educating men and women for others," SFS-Qatar's commitment to service encourages students to participate in programs and activities that benefit others. From the volunteer Hoyas English Language Program (HELP), which provides language instruction to workers in Education City, to building homes and schools for the poor in other countries, SFS-Qatar students can shape the community around them.
- Study abroad is an important component of the School of Foreign Service education. Third-year SFS-Qatar students can choose to study for a semester or a year either at the home campus in Washington, DC, or at any of the more than 115 programs - in nearly 40 countries - with which Georgetown has formal arrangements.
- Proximity and access to other Education City universities provides opportunities for cross registration and student interaction that do not exist on the home campus in Washington, DC. Students at SFS-Qatar have the opportunity to enroll in business, design, language, and sciences classes at universities specializing in those fields, and may find students from those universities in their Georgetown history and international relations classes.
- Opportunities for scholarship, sponsorship, and financial aid make it possible to fund the Georgetown education.
- With the Georgetown degree and the marketable skills acquired through a School of Foreign Service education, SFS-Qatar students have excellent employment prospects. Governmental and international organizations, banks, NGOs, think tanks, and other employers seek SFS-Qatar students both for internships and for longer term career tracks. A full-time career counselor works with all students to assist them in finding appropriate internships and jobs.

- Georgetown University Qatar Graduates Second Undergraduate Class
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar marked the graduation of its second undergraduate class today in an official commencement ceremony. John J. DeGioia, Ph. D. and President of Georgetown University, delivered the keynote address to the thirty-one students, who received their Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degrees in International Politics and Culture and Politics. The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar concluded today its third day of commencement events in the run-up to the university’s graduation ceremony on May 8.
