The Program

Whether you are working in the legal field, changing careers, or thinking about law school, the Paralegal Studies Program at Georgetown can help you gain the edge you need to move ahead!

Georgetown's Paralegal Studies Program is the only paralegal program in the District of Columbia approved by the American Bar Association-an important credential for most major legal employers. The program is designed to contribute to the development of the paralegal profession by offering students quality education, focused skills, and the essential knowledge they need to be leaders in a highly competitive, professional marketplace.

Distinctive Education
The Paralegal Studies Program at Georgetown is widely known and respected by the legal community. The program has been approved by the American Bar Association has continuously since 1977, and is a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE), the International Paralegal Manager’s Association (IPMA), the National Capital Area Paralegal Association (NCAPA), and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA).

Focused Skills
For over 35 years, the Paralegal Studies Program at Georgetown has produced educated paralegals who are leaders in the profession. In the fast-growing paralegal field, our students are given the tools needed to provide value and efficiency to all industries. Graduates of the program work with lawyers and judges in prestigious legal environments all over the country, in the nation’s largest law firms, in Cabinet-level government departments, in non-profits and legal aid societies, in major private corporations, and in many other settings. In addition, many of our students use the skills and knowledge from the program to further their success in law school.

Essential Knowledge
The program’s curriculum is developed and taught by faculty members who are distinguished legal professionals with careers that include service as paralegals, counsel to a congressional committee, law clerks, assistant to United States attorneys, and major law firm partners. The courses in the program are academically challenging, provide a critical understanding of the law, and fit the changing needs of the legal community.
