Giants Lose Day Game Thriller

Reds blow 9-run lead, then beat Giants in 12

San Francisco Giants fans who had tickets to today's game at AT&T will not soon forget it. It was a very hot day of very high highs and very low lows.

The team came back from a 10-1 deficit only to lose in extra innings.

The day had a similar feel as a famed 1997 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers back at Candlestick Park.  Back then coach Dusty Baker was in the Giants dugout instead of the visiting team.  He helped San Francisco pull off a thrilling win when catcher Brian Johnson hit a home run in the bottom of the 12th.

Fast forward to 2010 and the NL Central-leading Reds took a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth before San Francisco came back. Aubrey Huff's sacrifice fly capped a six-run eighth inning that put the Giants ahead 11-10.

A throwing error by third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the Reds ninth set up Paul Janish's tying single. Votto had four hits and four RBIs, including his go-ahead, two out single off reliever Barry Zito.  It was the kind of day that had a person like Zito playing the role of reliever.

The game ended with the Giants on the losing end, but it was a thrilling effort.

The team has tomorrow off and will be back at it Friday night against the Diamondbacks.
