Marine found dead in base housing
Comments 0A Marine assigned to Marine Corps Air Station-Yuma was found dead in base housing at 5:13 a.m. Friday, officials reported Saturday morning.
The Marine has been identified as Sgt. Martin Servando Cienfuegos, 24, originally from Phoenix.
The cause of death is currently under investigation by military authorities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sgt. Cienfuegos during this tragic time,” said Col. Mark Werth, station commanding officer, in a news release Saturday. “The Marine Corps is deeply saddened to lose one of its own and is committed to helping Sgt. Cienfuegos’ family in every way possible.”
Cienfuegos joined the Marine Corps on July 27, 2004, and served as a motor vehicle operator.
He served two tours in Iraq from July to December 2005 and January to August 2007.
His military awards include two Good Conduct Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
