UNESCO and Haiti: Michaëlle Jean taking up her duties as Special Envoy on 8 November

Michaëlle Jean, former Governor-General of Canada, will be appointed as UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti at a ceremony at Headquarters in Paris on 8 November. She will contribute to UNESCO’s goals in Haiti, her country of birth, where the Organization is working with national authorities on education, culture, science and media projects.

Post-conflict and post-disaster: new website on UNESCO responses

Following earthquakes, tsunamis and other crises, UNESCO is increasingly called upon by its Member States to respond to post-conflict/post-disaster situations in all its fields of expertise. UNESCO specializes in providing support to education and media and mitigating threats to culture and World Heritage.

"New humanism" is highlighted in Director-General's speech at Harvard University

The John F. Kennedy School of Government and UNESCO are “guided by a similar vision”, said Irina Bokova in her speech on November 3. How, today, “can we strengthen a single community of humanity, one that works together in the direction of peace and development?”

Engineer shortage a threat to development, warns UNESCO’s first global report on engineering

The shortage of engineers is a central theme of the first international report on engineering just published by UNESCO, entitled “Engineering: Issues, challenges and opportunities for development”. More than 120 experts around the world contributed to the Report.
