Dr Gerry Power
Dr Gerry Power is Director of the Research and Learning Group (R&L) at the BBC World Service Trust, overseeing research and evaluation programmes in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.





Over the last five years, his global team has delivered research across 22 countries on health, governance, humanitarian response, media development, livelihoods and climate change. Prior to joining the BBC World Service Trust, Power directed strategic consulting and research teams for a global media research firm in New York and London focussing on a range of key issues in the broadcasting, digital and new media sectors.

He has conducted strategic research to inform policy and decision making at the most senior level of organisations throughout the world, including the United States Information Agency, the National Council for Science and Technology, the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Irish Industrial Development Authority.

Power holds a PhD (Media Theory and Research) and an M.A. (Communication Management) from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. He also has an M.A. (Organizational Communication) from California State University, Sacramento and a first class honours B.A. (Communication and Journalism) from Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland. He has served on the faculty at the University of Texas, the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla, Mexico and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He is currently an associate faculty member in the Department of Media and Communication at the London School of Economics, where he teaches a course in media research methods for development communication.
