Parking permits

Hangtag permits are issued and renewed annually by OTM. All Georgetown employees must pay for parking through payroll deduction. The permit should be placed on the rear view mirror. If this is not possible, the permit may be placed either on the lower corner of the dashboard on the driver's side or on the inside of the driver's side rear window in the lower left-hand corner (facing the vehicle).

For permit holders with two registered vehicles, only one vehicle may be brought on campus at any time. On occasions when both cars must be on campus simultaneously, one car must pay the hourly or daily parking fee. If a second car is found to be on campus unauthorized, the car will be cited and booted. Multiple infractions may result in withdrawal of parking privileges on campus.

Lost permits

An individual claiming to have lost a permit will be required to pay a replacement fee of $75. If the permit has been stolen, a report should be filed with the Department of Public Safety or the police district in which the crime took place. The $75 fee will be waived if a copy of the incident report is provided to OTM.

Replacement permits

If your car is sold, traded or wrecked, you are responsible for notifying OTM and providing updated vehicle information. Parking permits are not transferrable from one vehicle to another.

Wait lists for parking

Individuals who have an on-campus parking decal and who wish to switch their lot assignment may put their name on a wait list at the OTM office. These lists are reviewed regularly, but it is not possible to predict when a space will become available in the requested lot or garage.

Key cards

Key cards are issued by OTM for individuals who park in Lots 6 and 9 and require a deposit of $25 by the employee, $20 of which will be refunded if the card is returned when parking is no longer required. Lost or stolen keycards will be deactivated and replaced for a non-refundable fee of $35. Lot E, Leavey P2/P3, Garage 4 and Southwest Garage parkers may access the garage using their GOCard.

Carpools

The University strongly encourages Georgetown faculty and staff to form carpools, which benefit the environment and reduce the number of single-passenger vehicles on our busy metropolitan highways and local streets. Carpools also entitle drivers to use HOV lanes, thereby reducing commuting time. University parkers who form carpools are automatically guaranteed on-campus parking and receive significant discounts on parking rates. All members of the carpool must be Georgetown faculty or staff and current parkers to receive this benefit. OTM staff will be happy to assist you in locating other faculty and staff who live on your route of travel, or you may register your search for carpool members using this link. Commuter Connections provides a Guaranteed Ride Home if a member of the carpool experiences an unexpected family emergency, unexpected illness, or unscheduled overtime. Click here for eligibility requirements and to register, free of charge.

Montgomery Mall commuter bus

Free parking is available at the Park ‘N' Ride lot at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The commuter bus leaves Montgomery Mall at 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday except University holidays, arriving at campus at 8:15 a.m. In the evening, the bus leaves campus at 5:15 p.m., arriving Montgomery Mall at 6 p.m.

Motorcycles

Individuals who ride motorcycles to work will be guaranteed an on-campus parking space in designated motorcycle parking areas. A decal will be issued for motorcycles, but the decal is not transferrable to an automobile. Motorcycles may not park in spaces designed for full-sized vehicles or bicycle parking areas.

Metrochek

Through this program, you may purchase mass transit passes from the Office of Transportation Management (OTM) on a pre-tax basis through payroll deduction. The pre-tax benefit from Metrochek is up to $230 per month.
