Bureau of Legislative Affairs

The Bureau of Legislative Affairs Assistant Secretary serves as the liaison between Congress and the Executive Branch on foreign policy matters. The primary mission is to advise the Secretary and other Department principals on all issues that affect the Department's relations with Congress and to pursue the Secretary's legislative priorities. The Legislative Affairs Bureau is responsible for coordinating responses to Congress to ensure consistency in the State Department's communications. Additionally, it facilitates confirmation for ambassadors and other officers appointed by the President.
