Supporting the local media: symposium held in Ramallah

We are working in partnership with the International Federation of Journalists to strengthen the media in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. We are holding networking and dialogue events for Palestinian journalists and delivering an extensive programme of journalism training.


We are also facilitating the development of an effective and independent professional association for the industry.

Our work includes:

  • Five media dialogue events - bringing stakeholders together to debate key issues
  • 15 working group meetings - to seek recommendations towards a more effective journalist association
  • Training and consultation workshops for 160 media professionals
  • Training course for 40 media trainers to ensure the long terms sustainability of the initiative
  • Leadership course for 20 middle managers and editors
  • Online learning, discussion and networking - through our online learning tool, iLearn
  • Broadcast debates on media roles and responsibilities
  • Development of handbook of best journalistic practice

Working in partnership

We are working with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in the Palestinian Territories. The IFJ is responsible for guiding working group meetings. UNESCO is an associate partner providing consultations on the media dialogue events.
