Liver Transplants
Nationwide, liver transplants are effective about 85 percent of the time, whether a donor organ or living donor is used. Our survival rates are among the best in the United States. Liver transplants in children are successful more than 95 percent of the time at Georgetown.
Small Bowel Transplants
Patients with small bowel disease may need to consider a small bowel transplant or intestinal surgery. The Center for Intestinal Care and Transplant at Georgetown University Hospital is the only program in the Nation’s capital and one of only a handful of Medicare-approved centers nationwide. We offer new and successful surgical and medical options for adults and children suffering from disabling and life-threatening intestinal disorders and liver disease. Pancreatic Disease and Whipple expertise
The surgeons performing pancreatic surgery here at Georgetown have among the highest volume, best technical experience and best survival outcomes in the country. In fact, studies suggest that hospitals that perform a minimum of 10 Whipple procedures (pancreaticoduodenectomies) have better outcomes; Georgetown’s numbers were much higher than this benchmark. Treatment of Liver Tumors
Georgetown’s Liver or Bile Duct Tumors and Cancer program is the only true multidisciplinary one of its kind in the Washington D.C., metropolitan area, and one of the most experienced anywhere. Patients who have a tumor in the liver are evaluated by a team of medical liver specialists, interventional radiologists, surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, nurse coordinators and others as needed.
