Summary purpose of job
The Senior Accountant role is responsible for the accurate and timely accounting, reporting and financial analysis of key elements of the Economist Newspaper business in the Americas. The position will work closely with the Controller, business heads and other Finance staff in the Americas (and globally) to account for the transactions in the key elements of the Newspaper’s business including Circulation, Print Advertising and their related direct and overhead costs. Working in conjunction with the Controller and Group CFO the Senior Accountant will be responsible for driving change and new processes across the Newspaper Finance function.
Requirements:
• BA/BS in Finance
• CPA or MBA
• At least 3-5 years corporate experience ideally gained in a complex and fast-changing multi-media environment at a senior finance level
• Previous (publishing) experience gained within a subscription or advertising based business is very useful
• Experience working across the globe within diversified teams
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and policies
• Interest and understanding of the publishing industry is essential
• Must have recent and advanced Excel skills and very strong PowerPoint skills
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft or another ERP system is essential
• ERP Report Writing skills is useful
• Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines
• Strong emphasis on detail, quality and accuracy
