Easter Sunrise Service at Stone Mountain

Wednesday April 20, 2011

One of the more unique Easter activities going on this weekend in Atlanta is the Sunrise Service at Stone Mountain Park. This has been a tradition for almost 70 years.

The morning service could serve as the beginning of an entire day of family activities, allowing you to observe the religious aspect of Easter with a beautiful ceremony and then spend the day bonding with family and friends at some of Stone Mountain Park's many attractions.

The service takes place this Sunday, April 24, at 7 a.m. high atop Stone Mountain. The park gates and Skyride open at 4 a.m. to accommodate visitors. The fee to enter the park is $10 per car. If you'd like to take the Skyride to the top of the mountain, there is a fee of $9.00 for adults and $7.00 for children 3-11 (round trip) and $5.50 one-way. Alternatively, if you'd like to have a morning hike up the mountain, there is no cost.

After the morning services, plan to spend the day exploring the park with your family. There are many attractions that you can visit at an additional cost, or you could plan to enjoy the springtime weather by having a picnic or taking a hike.
