Cold Springs Campground, Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Oklahoma
Cold Springs Campground, Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Oklahoma"Each campsite has it's own little nook nestled in the trees. It's fun to walk around the campground and visit with other campers. You are literally across the road from the cold springs that run through the park." ~ Blake

Campfire Éclairs

Monday January 10, 2011
Camping Recipe of the Week
This is a fun, easy, and somewhat messy recipe to do over the campfire. You can do different variations of pudding flavors and frostings. Add some sprinkles for fun too.

Campfire Éclairs - submitted by Teresa.

Laura.Lea tried this and gave it 4 stars: "I have made these three or four times now and took first place at a Scout Master's Cook Off one of those times! A few tips: I use dowels for the forms around which the dough is cooked .... about an inch round. I wrap foil aound the area that will be exposed to flames or high heat. Make sure the dough is really cold when you wrap it around the sticks, otherwise, the dough just kinda ooozes off the dowel. My Boy Scouts love this dessert! Try it and with a little practice, no one will believe you made them at camp!"

What Has Spoiled One Of Your Camping Trips?

Friday January 7, 2011
I've been on camping trips that weren't necessarily spoiled, but they sure weren't very pleasant. I've been camping where I was attacked by mosquitoes, bombarded by wind and rain, evacuated because of flood and hurricane and invaded by thieving raccoons. I've had noisy neighbors in the next campsite, and I've met inconsiderate camp hosts. I've been to campgrounds where the bathrooms were unsanitary, and I've been camping when I suddenly got sick. Lots of things can happen.
