The Georgia HOPE Scholarship, which is tapped by over 20,000 students each year, is having some serious financial difficulties.
Legislators are currently working hard to close a $200+ million gap in funding on the program.

The North Carolina 529 Plan is urging parents to get their 2010 contributions in well before December 31st, 2010 if they hope to receive a tax deduction.
According to the North Carolina 529 Plan, 2010 contributions need to actually be processed by the plan, not just postmarked by December 31st.

The Department of Education has recently released a new form for active duty military personnel seeking student loan deferments. By completing the form, soldiers may be able to suspend repayment on their loans for much of their period of active duty service.
The new form also contains options for former soldiers to possibly defer repayment even after they've left active duty military service.

According to a new article on Marketwatch.com, Section 529 plans have outperformed open-ended mutual funds in 5 out of 7 categories over the last five years.
Coupled with fees coming down, this adds evidence to the growing case for Section 529 plans as the investment vehicle of choice for parents saving for their child's college education.
