Did you happen to catch the Oprah Winfrey show last Friday? If you did, then you know that she mentioned
Groupon, the internet's fastest growing deals site, during her "Favorite Things" of 2010 show.
What happened was that Oprah listed Kiva, a company specializing in small loans for low-income entrepreneurs, as one of her "Favorite Things" for 2010. She then said that Groupon had a Kiva deal where you could get a $25 loan for only $15.
Within two hours Groupon suffered an internet meltdown as thousands of people tried to access the site at one time. According to Fox, even the staff at Groupon could not get on the site. The problems lasted throughout the day, but eventually things got back to normal. And the good news is that the offer still stands, for at least eight more days. Read more...
