Zig Zag team receive award
The BBC World Service Trust has won the 'Innovation of the Year' and 'One BBC' awards at the second BBC World Service Awards.

Michael Palin CBE, actor and writer, presented the awards on 12 March, at BAFTA in Central London.

Our Iran team picked up the 'Innovation of the Year' award for its ' ZigZag' initiative; an interactive virtual newsroom designed to enable aspiring Iranian journalists to generate high quality content.

This accolade champions the work of 150 Iranian journalists who, under difficult conditions, have participated in our online journalism course and contributed to the ZigZag online website and radio show

In addition, the team responsible for ' Bangladesh Sanglap' (a ground breaking series of 'Question Time'-style debates) walked away with the 'One BBC' prize for its collaborative work on the 'Bangladesh by the River Project' ('Nodipathey Bangladesh') with the BBC's Asia Pacific Region and English Networks News.

Sina Motalebi, a new media specialist and Iran country director for BBC World Service Trust, collected the award on behalf of 'ZigZag':

"We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. This accolade champions the work of 150 Iranian journalists who, under difficult conditions, have participated in our online journalism course and contributed to the ZigZag online website and radio show. I'm grateful for the Trust's support in enabling us to produce such a ground-breaking project. By granting us the freedom to be as innovative as possible, it has allowed us to deliver without compromising on creativity in reaching our goals."
