TOP 21

2009 Top 21 Social Media Superstars: Tina Brown, Founder/Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Beast

In an illustrious career that has spanned several decades, Tina Brown has donned a multitude of hats: TV host, author and magazine editor. The latter (at Vanity Fair and The New Yorker) were career milestones. Her latest venture, The Daily Beast, has proven to be no online wallflower, with the irrepressible Oxford grad at its helm. Launched in October 2008 and owned by IAC, the site filters, distills and parses the top stories of the day in terms that characterize Brown’s entire career: provocative, insightful and witty. As of late September 2009, the site reached 3 million unique visitors per month, and it’s mainly attributable to Brown, who, after reinventing the editorial paradigm in print is now doing the same online. New hire Steve Colvin will help her remake social media in her image.
