New Website Alert: Scarves.com

Wednesday April 27, 2011

scarfAnyone who reads the site regularly knows that I'm a huge scarf fan. They add color and interest to an outfit (or handbag!), keep you warm and are right for all seasons. Not surprisingly, I was really excited to get a press release announcing the launch of Scarves.com, an entire site dedicated to my favorite accessory! The site delivers on selection, prices, colors and selection and features more than 1,000 scarves.

What I think could be improved is the search functionality of the site. I like that I can search by season, material, style, color and trend, but I wish I could define my search by more than one--say spring scarves that are also skinny. And while I love a bargain, I'm curious about the quality, so when I do order, I will limit myself to once choice until I've had a chance to check that part out. If you do before me, let me know what you think!

The paisley pashmina is $19.95.

Olivia Palermo--Steal Her Celebrity Style

Tuesday April 26, 2011

Olivia PalermoColors, particularly orange, are on trend this spring. If you're unsure about how to make the look work for you, take a cue from Olivia Palermo who attended the Ermenegildo Zegna show in this stylish outfit. Here's what you should borrow from her look:

  • When wearing a statement color like orange, keep the cut classic. It will ensure you don't look like a trend victim.
  • Pair it with neutrals, like tan, black, taupe or gray.
  • Wear shoes in the same color family, though it's better if they aren't the exact color--otherwise the outfit may start to look to matchy-matchy.
  • A brown bag looks fresh.

What to leave to the celebrities:

  • Cuffed pants can make legs look shorter. A better length is when they hit at midfoot.

What do you think of her look?

Tips from a Celebrity Closet Organizer

Monday April 25, 2011

celebrity closet organizerEven celebrities, including Eva Longoria and Liv Tyler, are challenged when it comes to organizing their closets. That's where Melanie Fascitelli comes in. As a celebrity closet organizer and the founder of Clos-ette, it's her job to construct and organize closets. Mind you some of the closets Fascitelli works on are 1,000+ square feet--that's bigger than my entire apartment!--and have minibars and hair salons, but her number one tip is one we can all use: edit, edit, edit.

Believe me, I know its hard to donate that dress you wore on your first date with your husband or on the first day of your first job 10 years ago. But if you haven't worn it in 2 years, it's time to let go!

Get Reese Witherspoon's Scarf from Like Water for Elephants

Friday April 15, 2011

like water for elephantsThe new Reese Witherspoon movie, Water for Elephants doesn't open until next Friday, but already one item from it is generating major buzz: the scarf that Reese wears throughout the movie. I've already fallen in love with it as much as I did with the book, so I was thrilled to see that Zappos and Lumiani are offering a scarf inspired by it. I'm such a fan of lightweight scarves (in fact, I'm wearing one right now). You can wear them in your hair, loosely around your neck or tied to a strap of a handbag for a splash of color.

The 100% silk scarf is $79 and available at Zappos.com.
