Route 66 Maps + Navigation App Introduces 'Follow Me' Technology

Tuesday February 22, 2011

Route 66 Maps + Navigation GPS AppRoute 66 Maps + Navigation is an app for Android operating system phones that provides turn-by-turn directions, but is also pioneering augmented reality navigation. Route 66 Maps + Navigation (not to be confused with the Maxicom Route 66 app in the Android Market) has licensed TomTom's maps, for reliable and accurate routing. But it will also roll out a Follow Me feature (see photo). Follow Me "shows video of the street in front of you using the camera of the phone or tablet and adds a virtual 3D car driving in front of you. Indicator lights flash to tell you where to turn left or right," states the Swiss-based Route 66. No price or release date have been set for Route 66 Maps + Navigation, which will debut in the Android Market. Image © Route 66
