Mormon Tabernacle Organ at Temple Square

Saturday January 1, 2011
Last month when visiting Temple Square, my husband and I stopped in to see the Mormon Tabernacle Organ. Unfortunately we weren't visiting at a time when the organ was being played, but we've both been there previously and heard the astounding music that comes from such an amazing instrument.

In this month's Ensign magazine there's a fascinating article in the news section called, "Hidden Talents Keep Tabernacle Organ in Tune" which focuses on the behind-the-scenes work of the organ technicians who keep the organ in excellent condition.

At the end of the article it says to visit news.lds.org/organtechs to read the full story and see the accompanying video and photographs, except that url currently isn't working. After some searching I found the article in the LDS Newsroom here: Hidden Talents Revealed on Temple Square. A short video and photo gallery of 29 pictures take you inside the organ where you can see some amazing things, including one of the tiniest pipes and the tools and equipment used to keep the organ working. In the video I especially liked hearing what the pipes sound like from inside the organ.

The Mormon Tabernacle Organ and the inspired work that keeps such a marvelous instrument running in tip-top shape, is amazing. The article also gives some cool trivia about the organ and its maintenance history.

Have you heard the Mormon Tabernacle Organ at Temple Square? What did you think?
