Trust Me On This: Espadrille Flats

Thursday January 13, 2011

Spring is still a bit away, but I'm starting to see some clear trends emerging, and in terms of footwear the espadrille flat is going to be HUGE.

I have seen sneak preview versions from practically every brand I can think of, so if you want to instantly update your wardrobe - pick up a pair.

Thankfully, flat espadrilles are pretty reasonably priced in comparison to a lot of other footwear styles, so you can be on-trend without spending a ton.

For example, the Rocket Dog "Coco" in red scout plaid is $39.95 (pictured below left), while the American Eagle "Stitched Laceless Sneaker" is $24.50

The Color of the Year

Tuesday January 11, 2011

Pantone

According to the experts at Pantone, the company that (among other things) predicts the color trends for fashion and home goods, 2011 is looking rosy.

Pantone has decided that the hue or the year is Honeysuckle, a hot reddish pink. "In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going - perfect to ward off the blues," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Expect to see this shade popping up as a strong accent color in this season's wardrobes - but not worn head-to-toe.

What do you think of it?

Rihanna's New Fragrance Reb'l Fleur

Sunday January 9, 2011

Riri Riri2

Hot on the heels of her bestie Katy Perry's new scent Purr, Rihanna is releasing a fragrance called Reb'l Fleur this spring.

Named after her grandmother's nickname for the star ('rebelle fleur' means 'rebellious flower' in French), the scent will be available in Macy's stores and is said to include notes of tuberose, hibiscus, violet and coconut water.

Is Dark Blonde the New Platinum?

Saturday January 8, 2011

Wport LC

The weather is getting colder, so maybe that's why young celebs are darkening their once highlighted tresses.

Both former The Hills stars Whitney Port (above left) and Lauren Conrad (right) have darkened their locks - Conrad's is an especially big change.

Hello Kitty for Sephora

Thursday January 6, 2011

SephoraKitty1 Kitty2 Kitty3

Kitty fans will be so excited to hear that Sephora is introducing an exclusive line of Hello Kitty cosmetics and accessories in late January.

Consisting of a wide range of items like nail polish (my fave!), perfume, eyeliner, lip glosses and compact mirrors, everything I've seen so far is absolutely adorable.

Thankfully the prices are also pretty reasonable, with "liquid nail art" (nail polish) retailing for $10, lip gloss for $16 and body splash for $35.

I Put T.J. Maxx to the Test

Monday January 3, 2011

I have been seeing a lot of commercials on television for T.J. Maxx and how the company offers the same items you find in department stores - even current season goods - for less.

I decided to find out for myself if their claims are true, and surprisingly I did find several items that are selling now at full price for much less!

For example, the Nicole Lee "Farrah" handbag (pictured below left) is priced at $88 right now on the NicoleLeeUSA.com website. But at the T.J. Maxx nearest me in NYC, they have the same exact purse (fur tassel and all) for $39.99! I took pictures myself in the store to prove it.

I also found a satchel that I liked a lot from B. Makowsky called "Ripley" (pictured below left) - which retails right now on Endless.com for $268. However, at T.J. Maxx the same bag was $159.99 - a significant savings.

So, if you're willing to bring your smartphone to the store to comparison shop I bet you'll be amazed at the bargains you come up with!

The Worst Looks of 2010

Sunday January 2, 2011

2010 has come to a close, and for some celebrities they will probably look back on some of their outfit choices and chuckle - or cringe. Lady Gaga's meat dress aside, these are the outfits that I think neeed to go into the fashion fire, never to return again:

5. Victoria Justice in BCBG Max Azria at the MTV Movie Awards, June 6th, 2010.

Victoria

Victoria Justice is simply stunning, but this BCBG dress didn't do her any favors in my opinion - because it created the optical illusion in photographs that she was partially nude.

4. Emma Roberts in Mark Fast at Paper Magazine's "Beautiful People Issue" party on May 13th, 2010.

Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts is usually the epitome of class on the red carpet, so I was a bit disappointed to see her with undone, unkempt hair and a shredded mini. Thankfully she went back to her glamorous ways soon after and has been looking amazing ever since!

3. Selena Gomez performing at Y100's Jingle Ball, December 11th, 2010.

SelenaBad

Selena usually nails it, but these side-split pants look a little too Princess Jasmine from "Aladdin" to me.

2. Miley Cyrus performing at the MuchMusic Video Awards, June 20th, 2010.

MileyBad

Miley seemed to be on a mission to shed her "Hannah Montana" image this year, and she consequently showed up in various states of undress in 2010. This lingerie and shorts combo seemed particularly miscalculated.

1. Willow Smith at the American Music Awards, November 21st, 2010.

Willow

I give the highest kudos possible to Willow for having the guts to wear this one-shouldered yellow harness - but although it is exciting, I don't feel like it's a great look. There has also been some controversy about whether the custom design she's wearing is a knock-off of a similar outfit created by Mildred Von Hildegard, which only adds to the bad vibes of the outfit.

The Best Dresses of 2010

Saturday January 1, 2011

Happy New Year, everyone! 2010 was a fun and glamorous year for fashion, and many teen stars looked absolutely fabulous in their red carpet frocks. Here's who I think took top honors:

5. Kristen Stewart in Elie Saab at the Los Angeles premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,"  June 24th, 2010.

KStew

Kristen wore loads of ultra-short dark minidresses on the red carpet this year, so I thought this white one-shouldered look was a nice surprise.

4. Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham at the Academy Awards, March 7th, 2010.

Miley

The fit on Miley's dress isn't perfect, but I think it's the best look we saw from the starlet this year - by a lot.

3. Dakota Fanning in Elie Saab at the New York premiere of "The Runaways," March 17th, 2010.

Dakota

Dakota is a red carpet pro, and her fanciful feminine frocks were all amazing - and similar - this year. This hand-beaded Elie Saab couture dress was particularly gorgeous.

2. Miranda Cosgrove in Versus at the MTV Movie Awards, June 6th, 2010.

Miranda

Miranda was not the only celeb to don this Versus by Versace dress this year, but I think she looks absolutely smashing in it.

1. Selena Gomez in Reem Acra at the MTV Video Music Awards, September 12th, 2010.

Selena

Who could tell that Selena is only a teenager in this silver goddess gown? But unlike some dresses that are overly sexy or short, this Reem Acra gown makes Selena look sophisticated and show-stoppingly beautiful.

Shoes for New Year's Eve

Wednesday December 29, 2010

I still don't really even know what I'm doing for NYE this year - but you bet I'm going to be wearing a sparkly dress and some killer heels!

If you're still looking for the perfect pair of shoes for your party outfit, check out the unbelievable deals at 6pm.com (Zappos.com's clearance site). I've already found several pumps that I'm swooning over.

The Romantic Soles 'Cedar' heels in Grey Satin (pictured below) are adorably feminine and have a leg-lengthening 4-inch heel - for only $12.95!

If you're searching for something a little more edgy, I recommend the multi-buckled Madden Girl 'Olaye' in Black Paris for $19.95.

J-14's Most Searched Stars of 2010

Tuesday December 28, 2010

null

The year 2010 is coming to a close, and that means lots of magazines and websites are doing year end round-ups and 'best of' lists.

J-14.com revealed their most searched stars of 2010 - and I thought the list was REALLY interesting! Here are their fourteen most inquired about celebs:

14. Duncan Penn

13. Rob Kardashian

12. Joe Jonas

11. Cory Monteith

10. Big Time Rush

9. Selena Gomez

8. Jonnie Penn

7. Miley Cyrus

6. Taylor Lautner

5. Brenda Song

4. Trace Cyrus

3. Taylor Swift

2. Demi Lovato

1. Justin Bieber

Now I think Justin, Demi and Taylor are a no-brainer - but TRACE CYRUS (Miley's older brother) is number four?!? I also thought it was wild that brothers Jonnie and Duncan Penn of MTV's 'The Buried Life' ranked so high on the list. What do you think?
