If you have a large head circumference, new research coming out of the Cleveland Clinic says that you may be at an increased risk of
thyroid cancer, as well as breast, colon and uterine cancers. The researchers define a "big" head as being a circumference larger than 22.8 inches (58 centimeters) in men and 22.4 inches (57 centimeters) in women. They recommend that people who have large heads be tested for
Cowden Syndrome, a genetically transmitted condition, as well as screened for the cancers that are linked to that condition, which include colon, breast, thyroid and uterine cancers.

Many people think that the best type of doctor to treat
any thyroid condition is an endocrinologist -- the specialists who take advanced training in the endocrine system. There are some types of thyroid conditions that definitely warrant an endocrinologist. But there's another type of specialist that may be better suited to the needs of many thyroid patients. Find out
why every thyroid patient doesn't need an endocrinologist or thyroidologist, and what kinds of doctors you might find more helpful and effective for your thyroid care.

If you are getting a prescription filled for Armour Thyroid, be on the alert that a new generic natural desiccated thyroid drug has apparently hit the market. Some pharmacies are filling prescriptions for Armour Thyroid with this new generic natural thyroid drug, which is made by Acella Pharmaceuticals. The company, which is based in Alpharetta, Georgia, has a customer care toll-free hotline at 800-541-4802. Their website
www.AcellaPharma.com does not have any information about their specific products.
I've got a call into Acella (which used to be called Brookstone Pharmaceuticals) to get more information about the Acella manufactured natural thyroid drug, and find out what fillers, ingredients, and such are being used.
In the meantime. however, thyroid patients taking natural desiccated thyroid have been through enough with the Armour Thyroid reformulations and natural thyroid shortages, and the last thing many of you need is a pharmacy substituting yet another medication for your Armour Thyroid. So when you are getting a refill of Armour Thyroid, if you do not want to get the generic Acella product, be sure to have your doctor specify "No substitutions/DAW (Dispense as Written)" on your prescription. And if you're picking up an Armour prescription, you may want to double check your pills before you even leave the pharmacy.
