Jo Yeates murder police question Bristol motorists

Police investigating the murder of Jo Yeates have been speaking to motorists and pub-goers in Bristol in a bid to find her killer.

Officers questioned customers at the Bristol Ram, the pub she visited on the night she vanished, and put up posters.

Police also carried out inquiries in the Clifton area of the city, and at the spot where her snow-covered body was found on Christmas Day.

Landscape architect Miss Yeates, 25, disappeared three weeks ago.

She went to the Bristol Ram in Park Street on 17 December before walking the mile back to her flat in Canynge Road, Clifton.

It is believed Miss Yeates would have walked up Park Street - a busy road close to the city centre - before walking towards the Tesco Express store in Clifton where she bought a pizza.

Tests continuing

She was reported missing by her boyfriend Greg Reardon on 19 December after he returned home from a weekend away.

Her snow-covered body was discovered on Christmas Day in Longwood Lane in Failand, near Bristol.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said detectives had been asking customers if they were at the pub on the same evening as Miss Yeates and whether they saw anything suspicious.

Uniformed and plain clothed officers were in Canynge Road and surrounding streets to speak to people who may have been there as the university graduate made her way home that night.

They were there between 2000 GMT and 2200 GMT and talked to pedestrians and stopped motorists whose routines took them through the area.

Although Miss Yeates was clothed when her body was found, she was not wearing her jacket or her boots and had on only one sock.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled.

'Talented professional'

Detectives still do not know where or when Miss Yeates died and forensic examinations are continuing at the flat. About 80 officers are now working on the case.

Miss Yeates was employed by BDP, in Clifton, as part of a team designing landscapes for a new hospital in the Southmead area of the city.

Keith Pavey, director of BDP's Bristol studio, said in a statement on the company's website: "We are struggling to come to terms with the tragic and untimely death of our colleague Jo Yeates.

"She was a very popular member of staff and a talented and committed professional with a rewarding career in front of her.

"She will be sorely missed and our heartfelt thoughts go out to her parents, Teresa and David, and to her long-term partner Greg, who is an architect with BDP, also in Bristol.

"We are currently considering the most appropriate way of remembering Jo."

Last week, Crimestoppers offered a £10,000 reward for information, and The Sun newspaper has subsequently added its own £50,000 reward.
