iLearn: Budget monitoring, Nigeria

How we work

We are working in partnership with Nigerian non-governmental organisation, Integrity, to train journalists to better report on how their government spends public money, and to mobilise public opinion around government accountability.

I am concerned about how the money is spent

Reporter, Dutse, Nigeria

We delivered 14 face-to-face training courses to 160 editors, reporters, cartoonists and graphic artists across the country in 2006.

iLearn has been an important component of the initiative, supporting trainees between rounds of face-to-face training. New modules developed for this project include 'How Budgets are Made', 'Reporting Numbers' and 'Numbers and Statistics'.

"Before, even if I noted or reported figures, I just reported the amount. But now, I am concerned about how the money is spent."
