It has been nearly ten years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 remade American politics and foreign policy.  However, the man responsible for such changes, Osama bin Laden, has seemingly been relegated as an historical figure.  In his book Osama bin Laden, Michael Scheuer, former head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit, retrieves the terrorist mastermind from history to emphasize his continuing significance in world events.  Utilizing speeches and interviews of bin Laden, as well as previously untranslated documents of those who knew bin Laden at various stages of his life, Scheuer reminds us that bin Laden is still one of the world’s most dangerous fugitives.

Global Education Gala

The World Affairs Council-Washington, DC will hold its 2011 Global Education Gala on March 9 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC. The Honorable Ray LaHood, US Secretary of Transportation, will deliver the International Affairs Keynote. He will be joined by H.E. Gary Doer, Ambassador of Canada to the United States (Distinguished Diplomatic Service Award); Dr. Cornelius Kerwin, President of American University (Educator of the Year Award) and Intel Corporation and the Intel Foundation (Global Education Award) will be accepted by Wendy Hawkins, Executive Director of the Intel Foundation.  Marvin Kalb, moderator, The Kalb Report, will EMCEE the evening and accept the Global Communications Award
