If you wonder why there is so much tyranny in the world, it is because of American actions in many cases. Just listen to Jake Tapper of abcnews.com interviewing White House chief David Axelrod:

‘TAPPER: (Egyptian president) Hosni Mubarak is not a good guy and that government tortures, is repressive, doesn’t believe in the same freedoms we do and they’re also one of our closest allies in the Middle East.

AXELROD: Obviously these are the challenges of the presidency in a very difficult world. And, by the way (Obama has) confronted it, is he went to Cairo and talked about the need, the universal human rights of people. He’s — on several occasions directly confronted Pres. Mubarak on it. And pushed him on the need for political reform –

TAPPER: To get ahead of this.

AXELROD: — in his country. Exactly to get ahead of this. This is a project he’s been working on for 2 years and today the president is working hard to encourage restraint and a cessation of violence against the people of Egypt.’ (end of excerpt)

So in a brutal region of the world where America has few allies, the Media Left in the United States is again painting Mubarak - a friend of America and a peacemaker with Israel – in the darkest light.

This is the same path the United States went down with Iran, with Jimmy Carter and the Media Left suggesting that the pro-American Shah was too repressive. Yet the Shah was moving Iran slowly toward American-style democracy and toward a Western-style advanced economy while keeping at bay communism and radical Islam both of which were and are seeking power all over the Middle East.

When the Shah fled after the US abandoned him, radical Islamists predictably filled the void. And far too much of world chaos today is a result of the regime that has ruled Iran since.

Obama is said to be reading about and studying Ronald Reagan. Yet Reagan held fast against the repressive Soviet empire and did not spend his time ruminating on the lack of pristine human rights in American allies like Chile, South Korea and Taiwan in the 1980s.

During the Reagan years, those nations had military governments in order to do one thing – maintain order until the day that democracy could come. And indeed it came in all three nations, on their own schedule. And if Reagan had followed the Carter/Obama playbook, the Soviet Union would still exist and Chile, Taiwan and South Korea could well be communist nations today.

‘CAIRO –  Gangs of armed men attacked at least four jails across Egypt before dawn Sunday, helping to free hundreds of Muslim militants and thousands of other inmates as police vanished from the streets of Cairo and other cities.’ (end of excerpt)

Yes, wonderful, freeing hardened criminals and Islamic radicals from jails. This will lead to chaos until the radical Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood conquer Egypt which they absolutely intend to do.

Haaretz.com reports that ‘the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest opposition group, is in talks with other anti-government figures to form a national unity government…’ This is the foot in the door for the extremists.

Reported foxnews.com:

‘A broader and tougher military role could be welcomed by increasingly fearful Egyptians but would run a risk of appearing to place the army on the side of the regime and antagonizing protesters.’ (end of excerpt)

So as the overwhelming majority of Egyptians reject violence and chaos, the American Media Left are fixated only on potential human rights abuses. Meanwhile small factions in Egypt and in the United States are supporting the chaos and terror and criticizing Mubarak. Fox also reported about Egyptian-Americans:

‘CHICAGO –  Thousands of people in Egypt who flooded streets in riots calling for president Hosni Mubarak to step down were joined Saturday by relatives and supporters at protests in major American cities.

“Mubarak will go. If not today, then tomorrow,” Magdy Al-Abady, 39, of Chicago, said during a demonstration downtown in front of the Egyptian consulate’s office. The genomics researcher, with an Egyptian flag draped over his shoulders, said his brother and parents were protesting in Egypt and he was speaking often with his brother.

Protesters also gathered outside the United Nations complex in New York City, filled the street in front of the Egyptian embassy in Washington and marched through downtown San Francisco to show solidarity with the uprising. Other cities including Seattle and Los Angeles also saw demonstrations.’ (end of excerpt)

So Egyptian-Americans who have fled the horrible conditions in impoverished Egypt now are becoming vocal about their home nation. Yet the result of this chaos is going to be much, much worse conditions in Egypt.

In fact the United States is partly behind this Egypt uprising. Reported telegraph.co.uk

‘The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.

On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.

 …In a secret diplomatic dispatch, sent on December 30 2008, Margaret Scobey, the US Ambassador to Cairo, recorded that opposition groups had allegedly drawn up secret plans for “regime change” to take place before elections, scheduled for September this year.

The memo, which Ambassador Scobey sent to the US Secretary of State in Washington DC, was marked “confidential” and headed: “April 6 activist on his US visit and regime change in Egypt.”

It said the activist claimed “several opposition forces” had “agreed to support an unwritten plan for a transition to a parliamentary democracy, involving a weakened presidency and an empowered prime minister and parliament, before the scheduled 2011 presidential elections”. The embassy’s source said the plan was “so sensitive it cannot be written down”. ‘ (end of excerpt)

To justify the Iraq war, Bush repeatedly invoked the idea of human rights and liberty. But indeed many nations are not prepared for democracy. Egypt clearly is one. That region is far too unstable at this time. And the disaster of Iraq is going to haunt us for decades.

AMMAN, Jordan - The leader of Jordan’s powerful Muslim Brotherhood warned Saturday that unrest in Egypt will spread across the Mideast and Arabs will topple leaders allied with the United States.

Hammam Saeed’s comments were made at a protest outside the Egyptian Embassy in Amman, inspired by massive rallies in neighboring Egypt demanding the downfall of the country’s longtime president, Hosni Mubarak. (end of excerpt)

Indeed, this fixation with ‘human rights’ is going to backfire on Bush, Obama & Co.
