Head downtown Sunday, May 8, 2011, to Fiesta Broadway, the largest Cinco de Mayo party in the world. Half a million people come out for this annual street fest covering 24 square blocks of Downtown Los Angeles. The main event runs for over a mile along Broadway from the AT&T Main Stage at Olympic at the south end to the KWHY-TV Stage at 1st Street to the north. A third stage is located at 9th Street. In between you'll find lots of food, fun and games for the whole family.
Don't even think of driving downtown. Park at the nearest Park & Ride and take the Metro. And if you're not going to the Fiesta, but have to get somewhere downtown, be aware, you won't be able to cross Broadway for 12 blocks between Temple and 11th Street. Hill, Spring and part of Olive will also be closed.

If you love to shop yard sales, West Hollywood will be your preferred destination May 14-15, 2011 when they host WeHoGrnWknd. In addition to conserving vowels, they're hoping to reduce waste and keep usable items out of the landfill with a city-wide yard sale. That means a shoppers paradise for yard sale and thrift shopping fans. Since West Hollywood is the gay capitol of LA (and the rest of the country) you can be sure there will be some fun interior decor items and maybe some size 13 stilettos to be found. So far 58 addresses in West Hollywood are listed on the www.weho.org/wehogrnwknd website. And hallelujah, they've now added a map to help strategize your shopping route.

Where the Rose Parade is serious business, Pasadena's Doo Dah Parade is the height of silliness. The event is moving to East Pasadena this year and shrinking to 3 blocks (or 2 depending on which side of the street your count). It makes up in zaniness, what it lacks in distance. This year's entries include a fleet of motorized Kinetic Pastry Science Mobile Muffins, Songbird & His Ocarinas and a giant robotic spitting cat named Boo-Boo Kitty, The Pink-Slipped Pissed off Teachers, Friends and their Pissed-off Kids, Million Marijuana March, FireBrain, Evotrope, Motorized Couch, The Bra-Ettes Dancing Bras and many more.
When: April 30, 2011, 11 am
Where: On Colorado Blvd between Altadena and San Gabriel Blvd.
Cost: Free to watch, fee to participate
Metro: Sierra Madre Villa Gold Line Station (1 block west of parade route)
