Cricket World Cup: Bangalore to host England v India

31 January 11 12:42 GMT

England's World Cup match against India on 27 February has been moved to Bangalore with Kolkata's Eden Gardens deemed unfit to host the match.

The International Cricket Council stepped in after delays in renovation work at the original venue.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India nominated Bangalore's Chinnaswamy Stadium to stage the fixture.

ICC inspectors will visit Eden Gardens on 7 February ahead of matches due to be played on 15, 18 and 20 March.

The ICC previously rejected a request from the Cricket Association of Bengal, which runs Eden Gardens, to reconsider its decision to move the game.

Ireland are due to take on South Africa and Netherlands at the ground on 15 and 18 March respectively, while Kenya and Zimbabwe are scheduled to meet in Group A's final match on 20 March.

England's fixture with India is their second game of the competition after an opener against Netherlands on 22 February.

India and Bangladesh, the tournament's co-hosts alongside Sri Lanka, play in the first match on 19 February, with the final on 2 April.
