    Final results of last month's referendum show an overwhelming majority of southern Sudanese voted to split from the north, a result that will lead to the creation of the world's newest nation, the referendum commission said Monday.

  • Three Darfur children injured in grenade blast

    Three children, one boy and two girls, were injured in an explosion in Kebkabiya on Friday. The children are believed to have been playing with a grenade. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the children had found a strange object on the ground near the police camp.

    The United Nations, the African Union and Sudan are trying to seize the moment created by the southern Sudanese independence referendum to push for speedy completion of a peace deal in Darfur. Hopes for peace have been boosted by word that previously hesitant Darfur rebels groups will join talks hosted by the government of Qatar.
