The Chicago Tribune was first published in 1847 and served as the foundation for what would later become Tribune Company.  Today the company’s assets include eight daily newspapers, 23 television stations and cable network WGN America.  Tribune was a public company for 25 years, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, from 1983 to late-2007, when the company again went private.  In 2008, the company filed for protection under Chapter 11.
