Mubarak steps down

Egypt's vice president says Hosni Mubarak has resigned as president and handed control to the military. Car horns were heard around Cairo in celebration after Vice President Omar Suleiman made the announcement on national TV today. "In these difficult circumstances that the country is passing through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to leave the position of the presidency," Suleiman said. "He has commissioned the armed forces council to direct the issues of the state."

Winter melt appears around the corner

For the first time in what seems a long time, today's forecast includes no hazardous weather watches or warnings, no wind chill advisories and, of course, no once-in-decade blizzards.

Illinois residents are used to seeing license plates supporting everything from their college to the Hawks. But one official thinks the state might be able to make some cash by turning some plates into mini billboards.
