'Smallville': Michael Rosenbaum not returning for final episode

smallville-lex-luthor.pngWell... we tried.

Unfortunately, it looks like former "Smallville" star Michael Rosenbaum has decided not to return to the show for one final appearance as Clark Kent's nemesis, Lex Luthor. He has turned down the offer to come back.

"He has put the show behind him and moved on," a source tells EW. "He's pursuing his other creative outlet [writing]. By all indications, he is not going to be involved."

Producers are leaving the door open for Rosenbaum to return for the series' epic two-hour finale, airing May 13 at 8 p.m. on The CW. Production wraps in 7 weeks, though, so if he's going to have a change of heart, it had better happen fast.

We know, we know. We hate to be the bearers of bad news. But if you're bummed, at least you can take comfort in the fact that you're not alone. Somewhere, Tom Welling is probably pretty disappointed, too.

[Update: Looks like he did have a change of heart! Michael Rosenbaum will return. More details here.]

I hate it when actors are being selfish and forget the show that launched them and the first hour fans! Just like in One Tree Hill...

If the price is right.

Michael Rosenbaum's a douche

Yes Michael - you ARE being selfish. Think about where you would be, wait, sorry, where you WOULDN'T be - without Smallville. Any chance of anyone publishing your writing? Not without the Michael Rosenbaum of Smallville tag. So to come back for what, a couple of days - a week maybe, of work?

One of my favorite shows was Lost, and one of the keys to it was the fact that actors and characters would come back for even one offs. That showed that the producers cared about the actors and the characters, and the actors cared about the show and the characters they created.

Sorry Michael - you've just guaranteed that I will never support anything you try and do in the future. There are a lot of other actors out there far more deserving of my interest.

Agre with All

Like what has he done since he left smallville

hummm!! sorority boys
Big hit there

One last cahnce to be the best lex luther ever - no brainer

Definitely frustrating news. I agree with everyone here, he should pay tribute to the show that helped launch his "career." (Seriously, what has he done since leaving Smallville?)

I also swear I recall an interview with him where he said he'd gladly return for the series finale if they wanted him. So much for his word.

Lex join d team back and complete d quest, bcos and adage says d person dat start a job has done notin bt d person dat finish it. Go smalville.

I just gave up watching Smallville mid way through last weeks episode. It was just one too many slaps at conservatives. from the first ep this season it seems like the writers cant help themselves but to bash conservatives. well I gave the show more chances than I would have given any other show before dropping it with their liberal Bull----. But last weeks was the topper. So no Lex? I dont care either way. this show stinks now. and NO I wouldnt want to see Liberals bashed on the show either. I just want fun but Hollywood is a joke. 9 years of fun and now they pull this crap. well goodbye Smallville and your liberal bias. STICK IT!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm sorry PVC but What the H*ll are you talking about?

the comment made by Lois ripping talk radio and the :sorry to break up your tea party" comment let alone with the fact that talk radio is run by evil forces and that comment earlier in the year where Kat rips lois saying "I wil never understand liberals" I am not looking for balance I am just looking for no politics. if i want bashing of the right I will turn on MSNBC or if I want bashing of the left i will turn on FOX NEWS
