A former Philippines military chief caught up in a corruption probe died after shooting himself in the chest at his mother's graveside, witnesses said Tuesday, an apparent casualty of a deepening effort across parts of Asia to stamp out graft.

Witnesses interviewed by local radio stations at a Manila cemetery said retired Gen. Angelo Reyes sent his children to a waiting car at the cemetery before a single shot was heard.
