EGYPT: Muslim Brotherhood leader says uprising's main goal has been achieved

Protest8 A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood said Egyptians had achieved the main goal of their popular uprising.

“I salute the Egyptian people and the martyrs. This is the day of victory for the Egyptian people. The main goal of the revolution has been achieved,” Mohamed el-Katatni, former leader of the Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc, told Reuters.

But injecting a note of caution about the military's role in Egypt's future, Katatni said the Brotherhood awaits the next steps to be taken by the country's Higher Military Council, which took charge of the country's affairs after Mubarak's departure.

I have no idea what point Elizabeth is trying to make -- some sort of mash up about Muslims being denied rights (which they are not), plus the fact that some extremists have been home grown, plus some evangelicals are opposed to abortion and somehow that is the same as instituting sharia law. Where do you start to untangle that mess of confusion?

Here's an example of how completely wrong she is when she claims: "We want to curb the religious freedoms of Muslims and keep them in our cross-hairs because Israel can't get along with their Arab and Muslim neighbors."

Elizabeth, try learning a little bit about Islam and the history of the Middle East.

You will find that it is the Arab and Muslim world which has a problem with Jews and the existence of Israel. Learn about the fundamentals of Islam, their attitudes toward infidels, women, homosexuals; the goals of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood; the caliphate; the duty of jihad for pious Muslims.

Eighty years ago Hitler's regime demonized the Jews and wanted to wipe them off the face of humankind. Those acts were an atrocious and shameful chapter in Western History. We as a nation demonize Muslims and anyone with Islamic beliefs and associate them with terrorism. We want to curb the religious freedoms of Muslims and keep them in our cross-hairs because Israel can't get along with their Arab and Muslim neighbors. The Christian and Evangelical religious rights courted many republican hopefuls to go to Washington during the Bush years but your Joe Bobs from Tuscaloosa didn't blink an eye. Those evangelicals may as well impose Sharia Law on our women because they want to take away their right to choose. Timothy McVeigh, an American war hero who was born in the middle of our "heartland", detonated a bomb that killed 167 people and he showed no remorse when he was executed. David Koresh, a Christian leader, took hostages in Waco and stored firearms to use against this country. What about Muslims?
