It’s Halloween at the Palladium, and I’m there to see the Cult, playing downstairs. Being early, I linger at the upstairs bar to listen to some local hard-core bands play. They’re tight, playing ferocious, fast-paced music that’s surprisingly technically accomplished. The crowd — too young to keep the bartender busy — is eating it up, but while I’m appreciating the skill and technique, and certainly appreciating the passion, I can’t say the music is making me feel anything.
