An intoxicated man and woman on Tuesday morning staggered into a McDonald's on Tilghman Street in Allentown, vomited inside and outside the restaurant and then attempted to leave – without their 4-year-old daughter, authorities said.

Police charged Xavier Lugo-Alvarado, 22, and Jennifer E. Melendez Vazquez, 22, both of Allentown, with child endangerment and related charges. Vazquez was passed out in the passenger seat of the Lugo-Alvarado's car as he attempted to drive off, according to court records.

The 4-year-old girl, who was wearing only a tank top, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown for observation before being released into the custody of Lehigh County Children and Youth Services, authorities said.

According to court records:

Police were dispatched at 11:21 a.m. Tuesday to the McDonald's at 1414 Tilghman St. after witnesses saw a man and woman walk out of a car in the parking lot and stagger into the restaurant with a child. One witness told the couple that the child needed to wear a jacket because it was cold.

Inside the restaurant, another witness said he saw Lugo-Alvarado walk into the women's restroom and vomit inside a trash can. Lugo-Alvarado walked out of the women's restroom and escorted Vazquez out of the restaurant, where she vomited in a trash can.

The little girl followed the couple outside but the couple got into the car – without the girl – and started to leave. The McDonald's manager took the girl inside the restaurant until police arrived.

When the first officer arrived, he approached the car, but Lugo-Alvarado attempted to drive off. The officer ordered him to stop and he complied.

The officer said Lugo-Alvarado was unsteady when he got out of the car and the officer had to help him stay on his feet. He was taken to the Lehigh County DUI Center where he refused to have his blood drawn. Police said Vazquez couldn't stand on her own and continued vomiting inside the patrol vehicle

Lugo-Alvarado and Vazquez were charged with child endangerment and reckless endangerment. Lugo-Alvarado was also charged with drunken driving and Vazquez was charged with public drunkenness. They were both sent to Lehigh County Prison, Lugo-Alvarado under $10,000 bail and Vazquez under $15,000 bail.
