Topanga home tour
Ask John Howley about his preference in architecture and he answers: "I like Romanesque." Ask his wife, Linnea Mielcarek, and she responds: "I prefer the raw, industrial look." How can a couple reconcile such wildly divergent aesthetics and end up with a house they both love? They enlisted Janice Shimizu and Joshua Coggeshall of Shimizu + Coggeshall Architects, who created a hillside retreat that merged medieval and Midcentury traditions. Join the tour....

Raw and industrial i see, but Romanesque?! Ou? The medieval requires style. Is there a moat they didn't photograph?

The interior of this house is certainly inviting, and the downhill aspect has pretty decent "mid-century" eye appeal. Evidently the design had to be budget-conscious, but if it's "below the crest" of the hill I'd hate to be a homeowner on top looking down at it. The back side is butt ugly.
