I lost my job when my division of a large healthcare manufacturing company closed my division. I returned to my position after maternity leave for less than a month before I got the axe. I had negotiated a part-time position because I had two babies but finding a similar postion was impossible. I did consulting for a while but it's difficult to find childcare for sporadic days. I ended up spending eight (!) years at home with the children. Part of that time I was sure that I had no hope of re-entering the workforce at the same manager level I had left. Now I have been back in the workforce for two years. I did pick up where I left off and am happily ensconsed in a position at a family friendly company with competitive pay. I was very honest and up front with potential employers about my work gap and in the end it worked out fine.
